AV Project Manager
Spotlight Sound
Spotlight Sound is an event production and AV installation company based in Chelmsford, Essex. The business has two clear areas of work around technical event production, providing staging, sound, lighting and technical equipment to events; and AV installation, including sound and lighting installation to venues across the country.
We are a small business that has grown steadily since 2013. We now have a team of 8 people across various functions in the business. Since the end of lockdown we have enjoyed growth across the business and are looking to build our team with great people that share our Purpose and Core Values.

Job Title
AV Project Manager
The Role
The AV Project Manager will handle audio visual, sound and lighting installation projects from client enquiry through to completion. Working with the client to confirm specification and quotations, through planning, any necessary drawings, arranging engineers to carry out the work to a high standard through to final training and handover.
Reports To
The AV Project Manager will report to the Director.
Responsibilities and Duties
Client Engagement
- Response to client enquiries promptly and professionally
- Conduct initial site visits to understand client needs and project requirements
- Prepare and present detailed quote to clients
- Negotiate terms and close deals to win projects
Project Planning
- Produce project plans and technical designs and documentation when appropriate
- Assign engineers and technicians to projects based on their skills and availability
- Coordinate internally and with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of equipment
Completion of Works
- Ensure all work is carried out to a high standard
- Arrange training and handover of installations
- Offer ongoing support once installation are completed
Commercial Responsibility
- Drive repeat business through quality work and customer delight
- Be proactive in finding new ways to create customer fans and new business
General Responsibilities and Duties
- Being knowledgeable about the services offered by Spotlight Sound
- Maintaining a positive attitude that inspires co-workers and clients to grow the business
Person Specification
We are looking for applicants who are motivated, confident, and have pride in what they do.
The successful candidate must have:
- Strong customer service and ability to build lasting relationships
- Have previous strong experience and knowledge from a similar role
- Extensive technical knowledge of audio visual, sound and lighting systems and components
- Strong attention to detail, organisational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills – ability to convey complex technical information clearly to non-technical clients
- Commercially astute: have a high level of business and commercial awareness
Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role
- Strong sales abilities
- Great project management skills
- CAD drawing
- Excellent Technical Knowledge of AV, Sound and Lighting Systems such as
- Audio Signal Chains
- DMX Signal Chains
- Video Signal Chains
- Manufactures equipment for specification (Yamaha, Sennheiser, RCF, Chauvet, Chamsys, BSS, Extron, Wyrestorm, LG, Samsung, NEC, etc.)
Desirable
- Experience with Stardraw Design
- A/V Certifications such as AVIXA or CEDIA
- Industry Certifications such as PASMA, IPAF, ECS
- Manufacture Certifications such as Extron, Creston, BSS
Hours of Work
Standard working hours will be 40 per week.

AV Service Engineer
The Role
The AV Engineer will be responsible for responding to service call jobs and installing AV, sound and lighting systems on site.
Reports To
The AV Engineer will report to the Service Manager.
Responsibilities and Duties
Happy Customers
- Fault finding and rectifying issues with AV, sound and lighting systems at the client site
- First and second fix AV, sound and lighting systems
Happy Colleagues
- Completion of service reports and ticket management on company systems
- Advising the team on parts needed to complete works on site
Make a Commercial Contribution
- Be an ambassador of the Spotlight Sound brand, by communicating well with current and prospective customers
General Responsibilities and Duties
- Being knowledgeable about the services offered by Spotlight Sound
- Maintaining a positive attitude that inspires co-workers and clients to grow the business
Person Specification
We are looking for applicants who are motivated, confident, and have pride in what they do.
The successful candidate must be:
- An excellent communicator
- Have previous experience in a similar role
- Be familiar with AV, sound, lighting and video equipment
- Be familiar with specifying what equipment and labour is needed for a successful installation.
- Show attention to detail and good time management skills
- Be willing to travel and stay away from time to time.
- Be presentable, polite and punctual
Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Have at least 3 years’ experience onsite with audio visual, sound and lighting service / installation
- Familiar with 100V and low impedance sound systems
- Familiar with audio signal chains
- Familiar with DMX signal chains
- Familiar with analogue and HDBaseT video systems
- Full UK drivers license
Desirable
- Experience with SoundWeb control systems
- Experience with ShowCAD control systems
Hours of Work
Standard working hours will be 37.5 per week, with time off in lieu for additional hours worked. In very busy periods it may not be possible for time off to be taken in lieu in any given month, therefore overtime may be paid where necessary.
